1999 Hunting Lions in the Air Contest Results

Hello to everybody eagerly awaiting the results for the 1999 contest. This has been a steep learning curve and a lot of agonising and soul searching has gone on to try to give many people, especially the swl’s from India, a bit of a break. Many of them were perhaps unsure of the process of scoring or alternatively were not aware that scoring was required! I have taken on that role and you will find that you all have a score.

For the radio hams, many made no attempt to score your logs and while I am happy to encourage the youngsters that made the effort this time around I have made no such effort for the certificated radio hams. Those of you who took part but did not make any attempt to score will see their names with a zero score.

I am indebted to Lion Bobby ZS1ABO for scoring many of the ZS logs and to Lion Chuck W7YU for assisting the MJ radio station hams. Guys, if you have not already done so, I think the least that you could do is personally write to Bobby and Chuck and thank them for a Lionistic job well done. Last but not least, the effort of Lion Ajoy VU2JHM in coordinating the great pile of logs from swl’s and hams from India was magnificant. My great appreciation to you all for your efforts.

Having had my beef about the completion of scores I want to thank the many stations that took part; many at very short notice. I heard new clubs on the air and missed the old ones. Hopefully, with the advertising envisaged for the year 2000, greater awareness of this event will occur and HLITA will grow from strength to strength. Trophies and certificates for 1999 will follow.

Special congratulations are due to the Lions Club of White River ZS6WRL. Their score is entirely due to the many Lions clubs in North America that they managed to work and so enhance their multiplier, well done guys!

The HLITA rules for 2000 represent a quantum leap from the past to something that will encourage greater participation and the hunting of Lions on the air. I am sure you will find the scoring easier and appreciate the points premium placed on contacts with Lions clubs.
